Description

Building split halls results in flexibility of use and the ability to adapt the size of the hall to the specific event. In this case, each room should be treated as a separate zone, with its own sound sources and separate sound systems. Combining these separate systems must be simple, intuitive and easy to use for end users who change frequently.

In the example presented here, one RU-NMP44 network processor provides a room linking function for three rooms (for example, airport hotel meeting rooms, school cafeterias, corporate meeting rooms, a fitness centre and others). Each room has one 3-pin D-XLR3F XLR female socket on the Decora® wall plate, which connects to the DANTE RU-MLB4P Mic/Line bi-directional network interface.
Each input on the RU-MLB4P can be switched to a microphone or line signal.

In this system, the line level was chosen to support portable audio mixers with line outputs in more complex installations, or simple wireless microphone receivers. The RU-MLB4P converter converts these signals to Dante network channels, which are routed to the RU-NMP44 mixing processor. The signals are distributed to all virtual mixers. Three mixers with outputs to Dante network channels are used.
Each properly mixed output is routed to the SF-NP35E network amplifier, which feeds one or more ceiling speakers in each room. Alternatively, active Dante Relacart RDA20 in-wall speakers or RDA10 in-ceiling speakers can be used - in this solution there is no need to lay additional speaker cables or use amplifiers - the entire system communicates over CAT5e/6 twisted pair cable and power is provided using PoE.

The RU-NMP44 stores four presets, which are configured using RDL Console 2.0 (or later) software.

For single, unconnected rooms, only the mixer fader associated with that room's input wall panel will be raised.  If two rooms are connected, both faders associated with those rooms will be raised on both mixers.

Each preset provides the desired combination of rooms:
Preset 1: Each room operates separately.
Preset 2: 1 and 2 are combined; 3 is separate.
Preset 3: 2 and 3 are combined; 1 is separate.
Preset 4: All rooms are connected.

The RDL D-RC4M wall-mounted remote control has 4 buttons for simple activation of each preset. The LED indicators on the remote control easily show the currently active preset of the rooms.

If there is a need for verbal announcements in the venue, a signal from a Dante Relacart TDN1-F microphone plugged in anywhere on the local network is fed to the fourth input channel. The processor will automatically mute the music in the preset zones for the duration of the broadcast - ensuring excellent intelligibility of the spoken message.
If there is a need for real-time volume control, D-NMC1 wall controllers equipped with a display can be placed in one place or in each room to make this possible.
