Audio over IP

Audio over IP (AoIP) is the distribution of analogue or digital audio over an IP network. It is used to deliver high quality audio over long distances using CAT5e/6 LAN infrastructure. It differs from a simple point-to-point connection in that the signal can pass through network switches, also using optical fibres (even over distances of several tens of kilometres). It is also possible to create many different audio connections within a single LAN, and to broadcast from one transmitter to many receivers simultaneously.
