Induction loops
An induction loop, also known as an inductophone loop, is a system developed for people with hearing loss who use a hearing aid or cochlear implant. The induction loop clearly improves speech intelligibility.
The devices should be selected with extreme care and consideration of the specifics of the venue. In this way, they can effectively transmit information to people with hearing impairments.
A loop system consists of an amplifier and a cable. The amplifier receives the signal from the source, which can be a microphone, sound player or sound system, and then processes, amplifies and sends the signal to the induction loop cable. Using the phenomenon of magnetic induction, the signal in the form of an alternating magnetic field is transmitted to the hearing aid. There it is converted into sound.
Loop types.
There are several types of induction loop available. The most common are:
- portable
- window (station), which is designed for use in direct service areas. These include cash registers, reception desks, offices or information desks
- surface-mounted, which can be used indoors or in specific areas. Surface loops are subdivided into perimeter loops (wire routed around the perimeter of the room) and matrix loops (phase shifted).
