Garvan Acoustic panels in the historic castle in Szydłowiec
2024-02-05The historic castle in Szydłowiec is an example of the transformation of a medieval fortress into a representative magnate residence. The castle was built in the second half of the 15th century and was later extended several times. It served the Szydłowieccy family, the Radziwiłłs, Anna Sapieżyna Zamoyska and finally became the property of the State Treasury. Today it is the seat of the Zamek Cultural Centre, the library and the Museum of Folk Musical Instruments.
In order to ensure optimum acoustic parameters in the rooms currently used as the Performance and Cinema Hall and the Ballet Hall, their acoustic adaptation had to be carried out. The challenge was to install the acoustic system non-invasively (on the existing fixtures) due to the conservation protection of the historic castle.
As a result of a site visit, an interview about the use of the rooms and measurements of the acoustic parameters, we designed an adaptation using SurfaceTM absorption panels by Garvan Acoustics.
SurfaceTM sound absorption panels are made of prefabricated polyester with a uniform structure so they can be cut to any size and shape, even on site. They contain no rock or mineral wool, are dust-free and completely safe. The dimensions of the panels have been adapted to suit the available surfaces and existing mounting elements.
The acoustic effect can be heard immediately; in the Ballet Hall, the reverberation time was reduced from 3 seconds before the adaptation to 0.6 seconds - thus significantly increasing speech intelligibility. The overall noise level generated by the class participants also dropped significantly. Class instructors immediately appreciated the change in acoustic conditions, finally being able to communicate efficiently with their students, and their heads no longer ached from the constant noise.
In total, we supplied and installed more than 80 square metres of SurfaceTM panels in the colour of the customer's choice, at the same time equipping CK Zamek with an adequate sound system.
