Description
Building split halls provides flexibility and allows the space to be adapted to the size and nature of each event. In such cases, each room should be treated as a separate zone, with its own audio sources and sound system. Combining these individual systems must be simple, intuitive, and user-friendly - especially considering that end users often change.
In the example presented here, a single RU-NMP44 network audio processor manages room combining for three separate spaces (such as airport hotel meeting rooms, school cafeterias, corporate conference rooms, fitness studios, etc.). Each room is equipped with a 3-pin XLR female socket (D-XLR3F) mounted on a Decora® wall plate, which connects to a Dante-enabled RU-MLB4P mic/line bi-directional network interface. Each input on the RU-MLB4P can be individually switched to microphone or line level.
In this installation, the line-level setting is used to support portable audio mixers with line outputs or basic wireless microphone receivers. The RU-MLB4P converts these signals into Dante network channels, which are then routed to the RU-NMP44 mixing processor. Signals are distributed to three virtual mixers, each with its own Dante outputs.
Each properly mixed output is sent to an SF-NP35E network amplifier, which drives one or more ceiling loudspeakers per room. Alternatively, Dante-enabled Relacart RDA20 in-wall speakers or RDA10 in-ceiling speakers may be used, eliminating the need for speaker cabling or external amplifiers. The entire system operates over CAT5e/6 twisted-pair cabling and is powered via PoE.
The RU-NMP44 stores four user-configurable presets, created using RDL Console 2.0 (or later).
For single, unlinked rooms, only the mixer fader corresponding to the local wall-panel input is raised. If two rooms are joined, both related faders are active in both mixers.
Each preset defines the room configuration:
- Preset 1: All rooms operate independently.
- Preset 2: Rooms 1 and 2 combined; Room 3 separate.
- Preset 3: Rooms 2 and 3 combined; Room 1 separate.
- Preset 4: All rooms combined.
Room configuration can be easily selected using the RDL D-RC4M wall-mounted remote control, which features four preset buttons. LED indicators clearly display the currently active configuration.
If voice announcements are required, a Dante-enabled Relacart TDN1-F microphone can be connected anywhere on the local network and routed to the fourth input channel. During announcements, the processor automatically mutes music in the relevant zones, ensuring maximum speech clarity and intelligibility.
For real-time volume control, D-NMC1 wall-mounted controllers with display screens can be installed in one or more rooms.
