Induction loop in infokiosk - improving accessibility in retail facilities

Infokiosks are designed to improve information accessibility, allowing users to quickly find answers to their questions without the need for human assistance. They enhance efficiency, reduce queues, and provide users with an interactive experience at their own pace. In retail environments, info kiosks can display product catalogs, pricing, and availability information.

The Contacta IL-A42 is an induction loop amplifier module designed for integration into infokiosks, information totems, or self-service checkouts. It enables easy support for people with hearing impairments who use T-coil hearing aids.



The amplifier accepts a standard 1V RMS line-level audio signal (such as from a typical mini PC sound card). It can also accept input from a low-impedance speaker line or even a 100V line. A duplicated audio input/output simplifies integration with existing audio sources and amplifiers. The module features AGC (Automatic Gain Control), eliminating the need for manual volume adjustment.

An IL-AE99 ready-made induction loop or a custom loop made from insulated wire placed around the display is connected to the amplifier’s output.

The module is powered by a 14V DC / 2A power supply. The loop, typically installed around the display, provides an effective range of approximately 1.2 meters.

To test the installed loop, the IL-RX20 receiver with headphones is used. When worn, the test user hears exactly what a hearing aid user with a T-coil would hear.

Preassembled IL-A42 modules housed together with the loop are also available. If space allows, installation is simple - just cut an opening, connect the signal and power supply. The PF version (flush-mounted) and PB version (surface-mounted) offer IP55 protection, making them suitable for outdoor use.
